The College of Arms

The College of Arms was incorporated in 1484. It is the official repository of the coats of arms and pedigrees of English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Commonwealth families and their descendants.

The Court of the Lord Lyon

This is the heraldic authority for Scotland. It deals with all matters relating to Scottish Heraldry and coats of Arms, and it maintains the Scottish Public Registers and Genealogies.

Irish Heraldic Authority

The Chief Herald of Ireland is the State’s authority on all heraldic matters relating to Ireland. The earliest reference to a herald of arms for Ireland is dated 1382.

The White Lion Society

A society of Friends of the College of Arms, which raises funds to provide gifts of items that have connections with historical or contemporary heraldry that the College might not otherwise be able to acquire.

The Heraldry Society

The Society exists to increase and extend interest in and knowledge of heraldry, armory, chivalry, genealogy and allied subjects. The Society is non-profit making and is registered as an educational charity.

The Heraldry Society of Scotland

The Society was founded in 1977 to promote the study of heraldry and to encourage its correct use in Scotland and overseas.

Genealogical Society of Ireland

The Society was established in 1990 to promote an interest in Irish and international genealogy by organising open meetings, lectures and workshops, and publishing genealogical material.

The International Association of Amateur Heralds

The Association exists only on the internet and is composed of people from 23 nations amongst its membership. It was created to encourage the art and science of heraldry through helping to answer heraldic needs and enquiries.

Bedfordshire Family History Society

The Society was formed in 1977 to encourage the study of Family History, Genealogy and Heraldry, primarily within the County of Bedfordshire. It produces a quarterly journal to help with research and provide information on Bedfordshire.

Berkshire Family History Society

The Society was formed in 1975 to encourage the study of Family History and Genealogy in Berkshire. It aims to promote contact between members and make family history resources - especially for Berkshire - available to all.

The Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy and Heraldry

The Society is the principal family history society for the counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. It promotes good practice, research, the preservation and transcription and publication of records, and collaboration with other interested bodies.

Buckinghamshire Family History Society

This is a group of over 1,500 family historians who have been helping each other for over 30 years. They are family historians who either have ancestors from Bucks or live there or both.

The Cambridge University Heraldic & Genealogical Society

The Society was formed in 1957. It holds nine speaker meetings a year covering heraldry and genealogy, and also related subjects such as ceremonial dress, tartan, local history, customs, and military medals. There are usually tow outings per year and a large dinner each term.

Cheshire Heraldry

This is a web-site dedicated to the art and science of heraldry in the County Palatine of Chester.

Chiltern Heraldry Group

The group is an association which meets for occasional excursions and social gatherings, and to receive and present talks and displays of armorial and antiquarian interest. Meetings take place in village halls in the Chilterns and Thames Valley region.

Essex Society for Family History

The Society aims to promote and encourage the study of British family history, genealogy, heraldry and local istory, with particular reference to Essex.

Hampshire Genealogical Society

The Society was founded in 1973 with the aim of encouraging family history research. It has over 3,800 members world wide.

Hertfordshire Family History Society

The Society was founded in 1977 and has played an important role in family history research in the county. It hold regular meetings and try to strike a balance between talks for the experienced family researcher and sessions for complete beginners who do not know where to start.

Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society

The Society originates in 1973 to advance the study of genealogy, heraldry and family history, and to find publish and preserve relevant documents. It has twelve centres in Lancashire and one in London where members can meet.

London, Westminster & Middlesex Family History Society

The Society was formed in 1978 to bring together those who are interested in researching their family history. It publishes a quarterly journal and monthly meetings are held by five branches at which genealogical or local interest talks are given.

Middlesex Heraldry Society

The Society is for those who enjoy heraldry, ancient and modern. It holds meetings and has a summer programme of visits to places of heraldic interest.

Norfolk Heraldry Society

The Society is open to all who are interested in heraldry and related subjects. Monthly meetings are held between March and November and there are occasional social events and visits to places of historic and heraldic interest.

Oxfordshire Family History Society

The Society was founded in 1976 to encourage, promote and foster an interest in the study of family history, to help beginners, and to help preserve the most commonly used records. It also offers to the general public and family history advisory service on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Somerset Heraldry Society

A society formed to study and discuss the Heraldry of Somerset and all countries who have a history of heraldry. It consists of a growing band of friends, a dining club, and a group interested in heraldry and everything else.

Suffolk Family History Society

The Society was formed in 1975 to promote and encourage the public study of British family history, genealogy, heraldry and local history, with particular reference to Suffolk.

West Middlesex Family History Society

The Society publishes a quarterly journal which contains articles on family history research in the area, record sources and research methods, and local history. It also includes details of Society meetings, projects and services, local and national family history news.

The Yorkshire Heraldry Society

This is a small society, originating in 1970. It produces a newsletter and an annual journal which has a rich variety of subjects.

The American College of Heraldry

The College was established in 1972 with the aim of aiding the study and perpetuation of heraldry in the United States and abroad.

American Heraldry Society

The Society was founded to study and promote the proper use of heraldry in America through educational efforts and public policy proposals It seeks to educate the American public about the art and practices related to personal and organizational heraldry and to promote legal protections against usurpation of coats of arms in this country.

The College of Arms Foundation Inc.

The foundation was incorporated in New York in 1983 and promotes knowledge of and interest in English Heraldry in the United States. It is independent of the College of Arms in London, but its effectiveness relies upon the goodwill and cooperation of its Heralds.

The Royal Heraldry Society of Canada

The society’s was founded in 1966 to promote the art and science of heraldry, particularly Canadian heraldry. It was instrumental in establishing the Canadian Heraldic Authority.

The Canadian Heraldic Authority

The Authority is responsible for the creation of new coats of arms, flags, and badges for Canadian citizens and corporate bodies. It was established in 1988.

United States Heraldic Registry

This is a private enterprise that offers free registration of contemporary and historical heraldry. The mission of the Registry is to compile and offer to the public a comprehensive database of personal, corporate, civic, military, academic, organizational, and ecclesiastical arms.

The Polish Genealogical Society of America

The PGSA was founded and incorporated in Chicago in 1978 to collect, preserve and disseminate information on Polish and Polish American family history.

Heraldry Australia

This is a society for the promotion, study, enjoyment and correct use of heraldry in Australia. It also promotes the establishment of an Australian heraldic authority to grant and register arms and to regulate heraldic usage in the States and Territories of Australia.

The Heraldry Society (New Zealand Branch)

The Society was established in 1962 for the study of armorial bearings, the law of arms, heralds, and officers of arms.

The Heraldry Society of Southern Africa

The Society was founded in 1953 by members who have an interest in heraldry worldwide and specifically how it is practiced in South Africa and neighbouring countries.

La Société française d'héraldique et de sigillographie

The French Society was founded in 1937 with the aim of contributing to the study of heraldry and seals, by means of meetings, conferences, symposia and publications. It unites academics, researchers, students and those passionate about these two historical sciences.

Swedish Heraldry Society

The Society was founded in 1976 as a non-profit association. The purpose of the society is to contribute to an augmented interest in heraldry. Membership is open to all.

Societas Heraldica Scandinavica

Since 1959, the Society has united heraldry enthusiasts in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and it arranges conferences, excursions and lectures.

The Collegium Heraldicum Russiae

The CHR is a non-profit organisation established to create, produce, register, and publish coats of arms for individuals and corporations.

The Spanish College of Arms

The College is a private commercial organisation devoted to the study of history, heraldry, nobility and genealogy. It aims to help people find their ancestors and record arms for those wishing to register arms in Spain and Italy.

South African Heraldry

This website has been created for interest and entertainment. It provides an overview of the development of heraldry in South Africa since the beginning of European settlement in 1652.
